Five Guys makes some pretty awesome burgers and hot dogs. That's why I voted them among my top five favorite places to eat. But, bring your wallet. Prices range from $6.59 for a basic hamburger to $8.29 for a bacon cheeseburger.
I don't have a problem paying that for a restaurant-style burger, but for a fast food joint, it seems their notoriety - as indicated by the awards notices plastered all over their cups and walls - accounts for the high prices.
As I said, I like their burgers. They're really good. But, they are nothing more than a typical fast food burger. The aluminum wrapping has a lot to do with making the burger soft and juicy.
They proclaim to have "quality ingredients", and I agree to a point. The buns, however are like the buns at Hardee's or McDonald's. Sesame seed buns taken from the plastic bags in which the restaurant receives them. No toasting. Nothing special here. So, "freshness" is relevant.
Five Guys is what I would call the East Coast's version of In-and-Out Burger. A cult following, questionable pricing, yet awesome burgers.
Sure, the sacks of potatoes in the dining area are neat to see. But, they are just potatoes. They make excellent fries. But, they are still potatoes.
I find it difficult to understand the prices. The only reasoning I can see is they have a following, and you are limited to a good burger in Gatlinburg.
