Directions Gatlinburg

Most people make the trip to Gatlinburg via automobile or motorcycle.  Know that traffic can back up during tourist season (spring - late summer). The time required to drive from the main Interstate to downtown Gatlinburg during the low season is about half an hour. But, one can expect that same trip to require up to three hours during the high season.

Coming from the east, especially out of North Carolina, and the trip can bring you along winding mountain roads and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Many motorcyclists arrive from nearby Deals Gap, slaying the Tail of the Dragon, a road (Highway 73) featuring 318 curves along 11 miles of scenic mountain beauty!

Whatever route you take, expect it to be awesome.

About 4 hours, twenty minutes and 220 miles when driving US-23 North only.


About 3 hours, thirty minutes and 222 miles when driving I-40.

About 4 hours, forty minutes and 241 miles when driving US-70 East to I-40 East.

About 4 hours, 40 minutes and 252 miles when driving I-75 South to I-40 East.


About 3 hours, 30 minutes and 200 miles when driving I-40 West.

About 3 hours, 40 minutes and 210 miles when driving US-321 and I-40 West.


About 4 hours, 30 minutes and 290 miles when driving I-64 East and I-75 South.

About 5 hours, 20 minutes and 300 miles when driving I-64 East, I-75 South, and US-25 East South.

About 5 hours, 20 minutes and 280 miles when driving US-27 South.

When you finally arrive in downtown Gatlinburg, you'll likely be driving along the main strip, also known as the Parkway.  Be prepared for congestion!
